Named after Juval, a hamlet belonging to Castelbello, Juval Castle is situated high above the entrance to Val di Senales. In 1983, the 13th century old building was bought by famous extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner. Since then the castle has served as a museum, winery, organic farm and traditional inn.
Enjoy seeing a masque collection from five different continents, the world’s largest collection of Tibet objects and a gallery with mountain pictures. Furthermore the “Cave of Enlightenment”, the “House of Gnomes and Trolls” and the expedition cellar with Reinhold Messner’s equipment await you.
Since 1995 Castle Juval is open to the public:
> March 28 - June 29, 2010 and September 2 - November 7, 2010
> daily from 10 am - 4 pm
> closing day: Wednesday
> in summer Reinhold Messner himself lives in the castle
> Tip: You can reach the castle from the Juval Carpark either by shuttle bus or along the so-called “Waalwege” of Stava and Ciardes.
