Villandro Alp

The Villandro Alp, one of the largest and most beautiful alpine pastures of South Tyrol, can be found in the Valle Isarco valley

The Villandro Alp - "Villanderer Alm" in German, "Alpe di Villandro" in Italian - is located at the foot of the 2,509 m high Mt. Villandro, the most southern summit of the east ridge of the Sarentino Alps. The rather flat high alp covers a surface of 20 sqkm and stretches from 1,700 m a.s.l. up to Mt. Villandro. Located in between the municipalities of Sarentino, Barbiano, Chiusa and Villandro, the highland owes its name to the latter village.

Above all the lush meadows, the mountain pines and the beautiful view on the western Dolomites with the Siusi Alp, Mt. Sciliar and the Odle Group are the main reasons why this area is that popular. In the last years the high plateau, which can be reached via the Gasser Mountain Hut (1,756 m a.s.l.), has become increasingly popular. The path represents hardly any drop.

Not only due to the view it offers, but also for the cosy mountain huts and a keep-fit-trail, this area is rather popular, especially in summer months. In fact, there are some 100 mountain huts spread all over the Villandro Alp, perfect for combining hiking and a pleasant stop at one of these huts, offering delicious Tyrolean dishes you absolutely have to taste! In winter, however, the high alp is a paradise for cross-country skiers and winter hikers.
