S. Paolo belongs to Appiano and this is also where the so called “Dom am Lande”, so to speak “rural cathedral”, which is the parish church Pauli Conversion, is located.
The jewel is located in the heart of the village. The huge bells in the 86 m high church steeple invite you with deep tones to celebrate the Holy Mass. This church seems to be contructed for a huge city and is therefor affectionately called “Cathedral in the country”.
S. Paulo has been main village in the municipality of Appiano and numerous aristocrats settled down in this place. Of course they wanted to manifest their wealth and constructed this huge church between 1484 and 1533. From late 15th to 17th century the church tower, boasting gothic and baroque elements, has been constructed.
