Hike from Maso Ronco to the Monticolo Lakes

Easy promenade across the Monticolo Forest and round the two beautiful and famous lakes

The sports area of Maso Ronco (Rungg) in the south of Cornaiano is an ideal starting point for hikes and walks in the Monticolo Forest, as it is easily accessible and offers good parking possibilities. The wide hiking trail boasts some little ascents as well as longer flat sections across vast broad-leaf forests. Our tour is also well-marked, we keep following the signposts 2A and 1, showing the way to the Small Monticolo Lake (Kleiner Montiggler See).

We walk past the restaurant, staying on the trail number 1, approaching the little lake. Towards south we pass the Seehotel and reach the reed belt, where the trail 20 (See-Rundweg) stretches on a wooden footpath. On the other side of the lake, we come along the romantic Lake Castle (Seeschlössl), while the eastern lakeside is characterised by rocks. Water birds, dragonflies and fish, fortunately there are also some explanations on the panels, regarding flora and fauna.

We follow the signpost to the little lake, which is also surrounded on foot. This little gem seems to be more genuine and less influenced by humans than its big brother. After having completed the round walk, we start our walk back to the starting point at Maso Ronco.
