Snow shoe tour to Monte Luta and Monte Salomone

Crossing two peaks in the beautiful Villgraten mountains above the village of Tesido.

Driving to Tesido in the Val Pusteria, we pass the church of the village and follow the mountain road towards „Alpenhof“ and finally „Mudlerhof“, where we leave our car at a parking space about 300 metres behind the restaurant. Having put our snow shoes on, we follow the forest road no. 31 towards Monte Luta. After about 500 metres we branch off to the left into the forest. Hiking steeply upwards for about 1.5 hours we finally reach our first peak, Monte Luta, and enjoy a breathtaking distant view.

After a short rest we continue our snow shoe tour towards Monte Salomone, still following trail no. 31 through meadows and woods. After about half an hour another trail branches off towards the Malga di Tesido. However, we still head towards Monte Salomone (2,275 metres asl), which we reach after about further 20 minutes of hiking on its quite steep southern slope. Once again we enjoy a great view of the Dolomites.

After a short rest we follow trail no. 38A, which leads us to the popular Malga di Tesido at the foot of Mount Roda di Scandole, which is open in winter as well as in summer. On the toboggan run we hike back to our starting point Mudlerhof.

Alternative route: In case you prefer to climb just one peak, you can branch off to the Malga di Tesido just before the ascent to Mount Salomone. If you would like to do a three-peaks tour, however, you can also climb Mount Roda di Scandole (2,450 metres asl) before you hike to the Malga di Tesido.

When you plan to do this snow shoe tour, please inform yourself on the weather and snow conditions and the avalanche risk. It is essential to carefully plan your tour and use detailled maps as well as the right technical equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe, avalanche shovel)!
