Ultimo

Above S. Pancrazio, there is the municipality of Val d’Ultimo, comprising its localities S. Nicolò, Pracupola, S. Valburga and S. Geltrude.

The municipal area of Val d’Ultimo stretches from 1,100 m asl to the mountains of 3,000 m of the valley, which are the spur of the Ortles mountain range. The valley is a fabulous hiking area, in winter one of the main attractions is the Schwemmalm skiing area.

Already 1,000 BC this area has been settled, which is proved by several finds. Many of these findings can still be admired in the valley museum in S. Nicolò. Meanwhile the municipality counts some 3,000 inhabitants, spread in the single villages. However, characterising for the valley are the unique farmsteads, which are most often shingle-roofed.
