Rio Lagundo

The Rio Lagundo Cable Car takes up to the Forest Nature Trail in the mountain meadows and woods of Rio Lagundo

High above the valley basin, Rio Lagundo (Aschbach) invites you to hike, a district of Lagundo that still has a rural character. Mountain meadows and forests extend all around. This landscape with its healthy and fresh air, with its tranquillity and vast greenery, allows a breathtaking panoramic view on the landscape of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park on the opposite side. The slopes on the side of Rio Lagundo, on the other hand, rise towards the Monte San Vigilio or Vigiljoch.

Rio Lagundo can be reached by cable car, which starts from the valley floor near Rablà, directly at the stop of the Val Venosta Railway. In addition, a 12 km long mountain road from Tel takes you up here - or on foot, of course, if you are ready for an ascent of 800 metres in altitude on the Eggersteig trail. The mountain village has its own fire brigade and two churches. The Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus forms the centre of the village, a little outside stands the little Church of Saint Mary of the Snows from 1695, which was built two centuries before the parish church.

The hikes start on the outskirts of the village at an altitude of 1,350 metres: One follows the Forest Nature Trail, which tells you about the forest ecosystem and the local flora and fauna. It shows you 18 kinds of wood and is also suitable for prams. Other hiking destinations are the Monte San Vigilio, from where you can return to the valley by cable car, the historic Seespitz Inn with the Lago Nero (Black Lake), and the Naturno Mountain Hut, which - interestingly - is part of Lagundo.
