Labers

Labers Castle rises into the sky on Mt. Montefranco near Merano and gives the eponymous village its special flair

Above the town centre of Merano, amidst vineyards and apple trees, the small scattered settlement of Labers is located, which actually belongs to the district of Maia Alta. The castle towering between the residential houses is Labers Castle, which was already mentioned in the 11th century. In 1885 it was restored and two new corner towers were added to embellish it.

Today, the historic building houses a hotel. There are two more lordly castle complexes in the close vicinity: Rametz Castle with its Wine Museum, where you can taste the best wines during a guided tour, and Trauttmansdorff Castle, surrounded by its unique botanic gardens. Their Garden Worlds include the Landscapes of South Tyrol, the Water and Terraced Gardens, the Forests of the World and the Sun Gardens. In between, the "Matteo Thun'sche Gucker", a viewing platform, gives you a unique view on Merano and the glaciers in the distance. At the water lily pond there are sun loungers and a café for unforgettable Mediterranean moments in the spa town.

Slightly above Labers there is Mt. Montefranco and the entrance to the Val di Nova valley. There the cable car starts into the Merano 2000 Skiing Area and hiking paradise. On the Via Castel Gatto road, which winds up the slope, there are farm inns and Törggele locations that invite you to a traditional evening with roasted chestnuts and new wine in autumn. In the town of Merano below, this time is duly celebrated with the Merano WineFestival and the Merano Grape Festival.
