The village in Val Slingia is worth a visit both in summer and winter.
Inhabited by some 200 people only, Slingia is the smallest village belonging to the municipality of Malles. The Val Silinga stretches from Clusio up to the Rif. Sesvenna and to Passo Slingia (2,330 m), the trail stretching over the pass once upon a time was used by smugglers in order to reach Switzerland. Today hikers and Alpinists walk this trail between Sesvenna and Watles.
By the way, the Watles is also name-giving for the skiing area in the surroundings of the village. The road to Sliniga directly takes to Prämajur, where the lower terminus of the Watles funicular is located. What also make Slingia famous are its cross-country ski runs. Actually it is no incident that the Italian cross-country skiers Barbara and Thomas Moriggl come from Slingia.
