Sarnes

The cycle path along the Isarco river dam connects Sarnes and the farm shop of Castel Campan with the centre of Bressanone

In the middle of all the other places that make up the large municipality of Bressanone is Sarnes (Sarns). Due to the excellent combination of proximity to the town and the natural landscape, several bishops chose the hamlet as their summer residence. Many old residences still tell of the earlier centuries. Today, Sarnes is less well-known to visitors than, for example, Sant'Andrea with its cable car to the Plose, Millan in the immediate vicinity of the town, or Albes with its sheltered alleys. But also here are some charming accommodations that offer farm holidays.

For a long time, the hamlet was known for the Bildungshaus St. Georg, a training center: Courses were held behind the thick walls with the large garden and the modern seminar rooms. Today it is used by the Caritas. It is located in the centre of Sarnes, opposite the clubhouse with its library, the Sarnes village bar and the Church of Saints Roch and Sebastian. This church was built in 1510 from Bressanone granite and decorated inside with sculptures and busts by Master Leonhard of Bressanone. A St. Nicholas Church used to stand in its place.

Walking and cycling are the best ways to explore the area. The cycle path along the Isarco river dam, which follows the Franz von Unterrichter Path, leads to the old town in 15 minutes. Leisurely hikes show you the neighbouring villages of Cleran, Millan and Albes. The Valle Isarco Cycle Path is then suitable for a longer tour that extends to the medieval town of Chiusa or to Bolzano.
