Völs am Schlern Fie allo Sciliar

Fié allo Sciliar

At the foot of the mighty Sciliar mountain, there is the municipality of Fié with its component localities.

It is not only the symbol of Fié allo Scilar, but also of the province of South Tyrol. The Sciliar is a striking Dolomite mountain, at the foot of which the municipality of Fiè with its component localities Fié di Sotto, Fié di Sopra, Peterbuehel, Presule, Sant’Antonio, San Constantino, Santa Caterina, Aica di Fié, Prato Isarco, Umes, Novale and Steg is located. With a total of some 3,500 inhabitants, Fié allo Sciliar stretches from 315 m to 2,64 m asl.

Particularly striking is the landscape, as the villages are on the one hand surrounded by vineyards in the Valle Isarco, on the other hand by spruce forests and bizarre Dolomite peaks. Even if the origins of Fié definitely date back much longer in time, the first documents mentioning the municipality are dated with the 9th century. A particularly precious finding is a music instrument, that is similar to a flute, representing the most ancient music instrument that has ever been found in South Tyrol.

Gastronomy has an important role to play in Fié allo Sciliar. “Naturkost”, which means organic food, is the motto of the gastronomic weeks in June, while in October the “Kuchlkastl” represents a real highlight, treating your palate.
