Auna di Sotto / Renon

Auna di Sotto is a beautiful spot on Renon high plateau.

> Altitude: 909 metres above sea level

When in medieval times Val d’Isarco Valley wasn’t open to traffic yet, crossing the Renon plateau was the only way to reach Rome. In the course of the centuries more than 60 emperors crossed this area. Then, around 1600, the rich tradesmen of Bolzano discovered that the Renon was actually an ideal summer resort and still today, some traditional holiday houses remind of those long-passed times.

Among the many beautiful spots of this area is the Patschunerhof farm in Signato, boasting a terrace with one of the most stunning views and an almost 1,000 years old sweet chestnut tree. Worth visiting is also the St Sebastian Church, built with the aim to thank God for keeping off the black plague from the quaint hamlet of Auna di Sotto (see picture)…

> We suggest: In Auna di Sotto - known as Unterinn in German - you will also find the Loacker Enterprise, popular for producing those oh-so tasty Loacker cookies, wine and much more. And don’t miss the local earth pyramids!
