Already some thousand years ago, in the basin surrounding the city of Bolzano (see picture) early settlements were reported. In the 12th and 13th century the town of Bolzano was built, whose medieval appearance wasn’t changed until the 19th century. Then Bolzano’s rise to a popular holiday resort began and above all the quarter Gries became a renowned climatic health resort.
Nowadays, the city of Bolzano boasts numerous attractions and sites of interest. There is for instance the legendary Iceman Ötzi in the Archaeology Museum, numerous trade fairs about the most different topics as well as a total of seven museums and four castles, which are simply a must for lovers of culture. In the historic city centre exclusive shopping opportunities are waiting for you beneath romantic medieval arcades. And what about those oh-so lovely “Thun” angels, wouldn’t they be a great souvenir for your loved ones at home?
> We suggest: the sunset on the near-by Catinaccio Mountain as Bolzano is the ideal viewpoint for watching it and don’t forget to pay a visit to Ötzi, the most legendary inhabitant of the town!
