Soprabolzano

One of the largest villages on the sunny Renon Plateau is Soprabolzano (Oberbozen), which can easily be reached even without a car. The cable car starts in Bolzano, a few steps from the main train station, and takes you directly to the holiday resort on the Renon in twelve minutes. As soon as you leave the mountain station of the cable car, you are in the village square and can decide whether to continue on foot on one of the hiking paths into the countryside or take the "Rittner Bahnl", a historic narrow-gauge railway, to Collalbo.

To the right of the cable car station is the open-air swimming pool, to the left of it the church. All around, the houses are scattered all the way to the Zaggler Moss, towards Maria Assunta and the Renon Earth Pyramids, and in the other direction towards the Kaserhof farm. There are numerous excursion destinations to discover here: Soprabolzano is one of the places with Earth Pyramids. To be precise, it is the Rio Rivellone Gorge, where the slender columns with the capstone have stood for a long time. In the other direction, you reach the Funimal Forest, a wonderful place for families.

If you are interested in culture and history, there are several interesting buildings, such as the Church of St. George and St. James with its medieval frescoes and the summer resorts built in the locality of Maria Assunta (Maria Himmelfahrt) from the 17th century onwards. As soon as the first snowflakes fall on Soprabolzano, a very special Advent season begins. The stops of the Renon Railway are transformed into a small Christmas Market, called "Rittner Christbahnl".
