Jenesien, Langfenn

San Genesio Atesino

This village is a paradise for hikers and horse riders alike.

> Altitude: 1,087 metres above sea level

First written documents date back to the end of the 12th century, when San Genesio was named together with a noble family called “Edle von Goldegg auf Jenesien”, literally the nobles of Goldegg in San Genesio. And it was this noble family that in the 15th century also built the parish church of San Genesio.

Surrounded by meadows and truly old larches, the village - known as Jenesien in German - nestles at 1,000 m high above the city of Bolzano. Bolzano and San Genesio actually are the best example for the saying “opposites attract”: Bolzano as South Tyrol’s capital featuring exclusive shopping opportunities and San Genesio as rich green recreation area on the mountain towering above it. And horse lovers can look forward to those good-natured horses called Avelignese in Italian - and Haflinger in German - found all over San Genesio.

> We suggest: Take advantage of the local cable car and embark on a trip from Bolzano to San Genesio and further to the Salten plateau (in the picture Lavena), where one of the most beautiful larch pastures is waiting for you!
