Avelengo

This village is the home of the “Haflinger” horses.

On a high plateau above the Merano basin towers the hamlet of Avelengo with the skiing and hiking paradise Merano2000. In summer you can look forward to the most beautiful trips and excursions, along a natural trail for instance or to the Sulfner pond with its sparkling white water lilies.

The official emblem of the village - called Hafling in German - is the St Catherina Church (see image) dating back to the 13th century. Another “emblem” however are those good-natured and light-coloured Haflinger horses - known as Avelignese in Italian - which got their name from the village they are originally living in: Avelengo…
