Avelengo

On the high-plateau above the valley basin of Merano, there is the municipality of Avelengo with its hiking and skiing area Merano 2000.

In the close vicinity of Merano, there is the municipality of Avelengo with its 800 inhabitants. As “sun terrace of Merano”, it lives up to its name. Here, on the mountain ridge of the Tschoeggelberg, you can experience wide mountain meadows, shady forets and a breathtaking panoramic view on the summits of the Gruppo di Tessa peaks.

The mountain village with its component localities S. Caterina, Avelengo village, Avelengo di Sopra and Falzeben are considered great hiking destinations and stretch from 1,200 to 2,500 m asl. From Avelengo you can make the most beautiful hikes and excursions, from pleasantly easy ones to challenging mountain tours. In winter the area of Merano 2000 transforms into a family-oriented skiing area.

The official monument of the village is the S. Caterina church of the 13th century, which can be seen from afar. Also the Haflinger horse breed could, however, be considered a symbol, as the robust and docile blond horses originate in the municipality.
