Lagundo is a municipality located close to Merano, stretching from 330 m to 1,500 m asl. Its vegetation comprises both fruit orchards and vineyards as well as alpine vegetation, providing a unique combination to those seeking relaxation in the heart of nature. The municipal territory comprises the villages of Riolagundo, Foresta, Riomolino, Plars di Mezzo, Plars di Sopra, Ries and Velloi as well as the main village of Lagundo.
Comprising about 160 km of hiking and walking trails, first of all the Roggia di Lagundo, the municipality is a great area for those who love hiking. However, also the village itself has got some sights to offer. Characterising for Lagundo are its large number of churches and chapels. Also the Maria Steinach monastery, a bridge head of the Via Claudia Augusta as well as precious frescoes and a cup-marked stone, that is to say cult sites of pre-Christian times, are worth to be visited and testify the animated past of Lagundo.
A peculiarity: at the MeBo clearway exit, you can admire an arts project called “SteinZeit”, which was realised on the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of Lagundo in 2002 by various South Tyrolean artists.
