Lana

Located only a stone’s throw from Merano, the municipality of Lana welcomes you with wine, culinary delights, music and tradition.

The largest fruit-growing municipality of South Tyrol is called Lana and is located in the southern corner of the valley basin of Merano, at the entrance to Val d’Ultimo. Comprising the villages Lana di Sopra, Lana di Mezzo, Lana di Sotto, Foiana and Pavicolo, the municipal territory stretches from 250 m in the valley to 1,910 m asl at Monte San Vigilio, the local mountain of Lana.

Already about 10,000 ago, after the last Ice Age, the slopes surrounding Lana were settled, but but the most thriving period started in the 19th century. The reason for the prosperous period was the construction of the railway line between Merano and Bolzano. When the area was reclaimed in the 19th century, the lovely village of Lana developed. Today the lovely municipality is surrounded by fruit orchards and vineyards.

Due to the large number of churches, chapels and castles spread all over the municipal territory, Lana provides several attractions that are worth seeing. However, not only those who are interested in culture and history will love this charming spot of land, but also those who prefer shopping, making a stroll and go for a walk in the pedestrian zone in the centre. A 9-hole golf course, an outdoor pool and the new horse riding stable make your stay a lasting experience.
