Between the better-known names of the Merano region, such as Lana, Merano and Meltina, you will find the small municipality of Postal, which borders the urban area of Merano to the south. On the other side of the Adige River lies Lana, the Gateway to the South. To the east, the slopes, which are particularly popular among mountain runners, rise towards the Monzoccolo. If you want to avoid the rather steep path, you can take the cable car up to Verano for a more leisurely ascent.

Burgstall, the German name, was first mentioned in the 13th century by the eponymous castle, which then gave the village its name. Its remains can still be seen today: The historic buildings were located on the slope at that time, as the valley floor was still marshy and inaccessible. The name of Volkmar von Burgstall, captain, castellan and burgrave of Tyrol in the 14th century, is also associated with it. At that time he was one of the most influential servants in Tyrol, and today the Graf Volkmar Path is dedicated to him. It leads as a walk and exercise trail through the shady terrain above Postal. The hike takes you from the medieval parish church of Postal southwards to the valley station of the new Verano Cable Car.

This cable car is also much used in every season. On the Monzoccolo, nature lovers will find a hiker's paradise amidst meadows and larch forests. It is perfect to escape the hot temperatures in the valley in summer and to get from the mostly snowless valley floor to snow-covered landscapes in winter. The milder seasons, spring and autumn, are also becoming increasingly popular. While the weeks in April transform the area into a sea of apple blossoms, autumn offers a wonderfully colourful scenery and unique Törggele experiences with new wine in the traditional farm inns.
