The South Tyrolean Wine Route stretches from Nalles to Bolzano and the Oltradige, via the Bassa Atesina to Salorno. This area comprises about 90% of the South Tyrolean Wine production, including the typical varieties of wine such as the Merlot and Lagrein, as well as the Pinot Girgio and the Chardonnay. By the way, the South Tyrolean Wine Route is the most ancient of Italy.

The municipality of Terlano is located along the South Tyrolean Wine Route, in the Val d’Adige between Bolzano and Merano. Extending between 248 and 290 m asl, the municipality comprises the main village of Terlano on the one hand, on the other hand the localities Settequerce and Vilpiano.

Two historic buildings can be considered the symbol of Terlano: one the one part the Gothic parish church that dates back to the 14th century. It boasts a steeple that is one of the highest of South Tyrol and that was adorned by red-gleaming porphyry rocks. On the other part, the Neuhaus ruin, also called Maultasch Castle, towering on a rock spur above Terlano.

Terlano extends on the east side of the Val d’Adige and is surrounded by vineyards and apple orchards. In spring these orchards are in full blossom, while from April to May the asparagus attracts the attention and is celebrated in the village. Not for nothing the area between Terlano, Vilpiano and Settequerce is considered to be the “golden asparagus triangle”, as this royal vegetable thrives right here.
