The municipality of Laion is considered to be the gate to the Dolomites, this is where sun-drenched slopes transition into a high alpine area.
Laion is a municipality located in the lower Valle Isarco at the entrance of the Valgardena valley and comprises the village of Laion as well as the hamlets of Albions, Fraina, Novale di Laion, San Pietro di Laion, Ceves, Tanurza and Pontives. The municipal territory extends from 464 m asl to 2,260 m asl up to the Raciesa, the highest elevation of the municipality and local mountain of Laion.
The first settlements of the area round Laion are considered to have taken place in the Stone Age. At the Rasciesa mountain, a hunters’ resting place has been discovered, which is attachable to these days.
The fairytale view to the Valgardena valley and the surrounding mountain summits as well as the tranquillity in the heart of nature make Laion a perfect holiday destination for those who seek relaxation. Every season has its little wonders: in spring the blossom of cherry trees covers the scenery with a sea of fragrant flowers, in autumn you can enjoy pleasant Toerggele evenings and in winter you can reach the Val Gardena skiing area within a shot time, while the warm months of the year are ideal for experiencing the surroundings on foot.
