First written documents about Brunico and its quarters Villa, Santa Caterina, Ameto, Teodone, Luns, Riscone, S. Giorgio and Stegona date back to the year 1256. Built by bishop Bruno von Bullenstätten, the beautiful castle of Bressanone made the little town soon become an important economic and cultural centre of Val Pusteria.
Numerous shops and cafes characterise the picturesque inner city and its traffic-free alley and the probably best ice creams ever might be tasted opposite to the town gate, beneath the shadowy trees along the canal.
