Deep in the Val Senales valley, at 1,327 m asl, the village of Certosa is located at the left side. Already in 1326 a little wood construction has been established, which was the Carthusian montastery Certosa degli Angeli.
And still today the spirit of the former Carthusian monastery can be perceived. The remainings of the defensive circular wall round the village testifies the respect of the monchs of the farmers, who rebelled against the charges. In 1525 the monastery has been plundered by rebellious farmers, which provoked the monchs to build the circular wall. Finally in 1782, in the course of secularization by the emperor Joseph II, farmers and craftsmen moved into the building steeped in history. Worth seeing is particularly the kitchen of the monastery, featuring mystical signs.
However, the Gruppo di Tessa enchants all those who love nature and hiking with its unique flora and fauna. Spring, summer, autumn and winter, all-year nature has a peculiar charme to offer.
Those who love winter sports will enjoy the varied range of offers in the skiing area Val Senales. Did we talk about winter?! Well, that’s not quite true, as it is a glacial skiing area and open nearly all-year. :-)!
