Ciardes

Ciardes is not only about legends and lovely old irrigation channels.

> Altitude: 625 metres above sea level

First written documents about the hamlet of Ciardes date back to the 14th century. Then, in 1928, it became one huge municipality together with nearby Castelbello. In their near surroundings there are the two pretty castles of Castelbello and Juval. Moreover, here you will find several of those lovely old irrigation channels, which have become beloved hiking and walking trails. Just ask somebody for the so-called “Waalwege”!

There is a legend linked to the fountain at the heart of the village: Once upon a time a man was transformed into a frog. But then he was saved and became a human being again and in return for it he provided the dried-out fountain with new waters. Since then, the fountain has been known as the “fountain of frogs”…

> We suggest: What about a traditional “Törggelen” evening with roasted chestnuts and delicious wines and a hike to the ruins of Montalbano and Colsano di Sopra?
