Including the hamlets Snodres and Monte Ruzzo, Velturno lies right above Chiusa and Bressanone and features a stunning view of the Gruppo dell’Odle mountains (see image). High above Velturno towers the Monte del Pascolo mountain. A truly unique place is the renowned Velturno Castle, the former summer residence of the bishops of Bressanone. Today the renaissance-style castle houses a museum.
In late autumn it is time to celebrate a beloved tradition, the so-called Törggelen. Residents and visitors alike get together, eat hot-roasted chestnuts and taste the oh-so sweet new wine. Worth visiting are the Keschtnigl Adventure Weeks in November, with lots of events and highlights about chestnuts…
> We suggest: Hike to the waterfall near to Pietro Mezzomonte and try out the delicious “Keschtnkrapfen”, sweet doughnuts made of yeast dough and filled with chestnut cream!
