> Altitude: 880 metres above sea level
Villandro nestles on a mountain slope with numerous becks and gorges, which at the same time serve as natural borders between its quarters Santo Stefano, San Valentino and San Maurizio. A fairly long history characterises the place, as proved by the remains of numerous castles and archaeological sites. There is for instance a 4 m high phyllite rock, which reminds the 50 men and women bravely defending their place against French troops in 1797.
Two tall Gothic towers dominate the centre of the village. Thanks to the mild climate Villandro grows vines up to an altitude of 700 metres above sea level. The local wine tastes best in autumn, when the beloved Törggelen tradition is celebrated…
> We suggest: Hike up to the belvedere of Monte Villandro and don’t miss the flowering plum trees in spring!
