Rodengo

A visit of Castel Rodengo and a walk on the alpine pasture of Alpe di Rodengo are a real must-do in this spot of land.

The mountain village of Rodengo belongs to the holidays area of Gitschberg-Jochtal and is located off the main traffic roads on a low mountain range terrace above the Valle Isarco. Boasting some 1,190 inhabitants, Rodengo can be reached via a 4 km long mountain road that runs its course from Rio di Pusteria.

Rodengo stretches from 590 m at the Rienza river to 2,100 m asl underneath the Cima Lasta and comprises the villages of Villa, Chivo, San Benedetto, San Paolo, Spisses, Ahnerberg and Froellerberg. From a climatic viewpoint, Rodengo benefits from the mild climate of the middle Valle Isarco on the one hand, on the other hand from the mountain climate conditions of the Val Pusteria.

Symbol of the municipality is Castel Rodengo, dating back to the 12th century and rising on a rock spur above the Rienza gorge. This castle complex is known beyond borders, above all due to the Iwein fresco cycle. A further highlight is the Alpe di Rodengo alpine pasture, which is one of the largest high plateaus of Europe, providing ideal conditions for recreation all the year round. Numerous taverns spoil your palate with local delicacies and make your stay a culinary pleasure. The Cima Lasta, a summit that can be reached from the Alpe di Rodengo, makes you by the way enjoy an awesome panoramic view.
