The picturesque village of S. Maurizio, also known under the name Sauders, is located in the south of the centre of Villandro at 780 m asl and consists of a series of farmsteads, snuggling on the sun-drenched slopes in the south of S. Stefano. The church of S. Maurizio, consecrated to S. Maurizio, has first been mentioned in 1406 and re-styled in 1670 in Baroque style. To attract attention today is the Baroque illustration of the fourteen Auxiliary Saints in the little round-arched niches.
Another worthy destination is Bagni Tre Chiese, where you can admire three ancient chapels. Also worthwhile is an excursion to the Alpe di Villandro, which boasts a large number of trails for all the family. On the chestnut trail you can reach the centre of Villandro in a pleasant walk.
Our tip: when you plan your stay in S. Maurizio in autumn, you absolutely have to do a typical Valle Isarco Toerggele evening.
