Already in medieval times, the near-by village of Predoi engaged in copper ore mining. This resulted in an never experienced boom, lasting for more than 5 centuries. But with the advance of the American copper mines the once flowering local mining industry came to a sudden dead halt. In 1993, the Valle Aurina copper mine had to be closed. Today, the former corn bin hosts an interesting mining museum, which introduces the visitors to the hard life of mine workers.
But Cadipietra has to offer much more than general sites of interest. Agriculture and tourism, for instance, are two of the several aspects definitely worth mentioning. In summer the place is a beloved starting point for hikes and in winter the ski area of Klausberg/Monte Chiusetta is within easy reach.
> We suggest: Take advantage of the local cable car and travel to near-by Monte Chiusetta or go for a hike up to stunning Lake Chiusetta at 2150 m!
