Gais

Gais

Gais is located at the entrance of the Valle Aurina, in the Vedrette di Ries nature park.

The municipality of Gais comprises the villages of Villa Ottone, Riomolino and Montassilone and stretches from 819 to 3,171 m slm at the entrance of the Valle Aurina. The Castello di Chela and the Castello di Neuhaus are the most significant buildings in the municipality, seen from a historical and cultural viewpoint.

Gais is located in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina nature park and offers a variety of possibilities regarding your leisure, not only due to the 80 three-thousanders that rise into the sky in the Valle Aurina. Worth a visit are also the small mountain hamlets of the municipality that are located at the slope above the valley basin of Brunico, such as Riomolino and Montassilone.

If you prefer staying down in the valley, we recommend a tour on the cycle track to Campo Tures, or a walk to Brunico. In winter, there is the Plan de Corones skiing area, located only a stone’s throw from Gais. In summer, this mountain is also ideal for hiking. And after a walk we recommend you a jump into the bathing pond in the centre of Gais.
