San Leonardo

San Leonardo, the main place of the homonymous municipality, is located at 693 m asl, in idyllic position, surrounded by meadows and forests. The parish church can be found slightly outside the village.

The most famous building of San Leonardo is the Sandhof farm, which is the birthplace of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. Today it hosts the MuseumPasseier, which is not only dedicated to the freedom fighter, but also to traditions in Val Passiria. In this conglomerate farm, everyday life of a bygone period is simulated in an open air area. An outpost of the museum is located in the donjon of Castel Giovo, which can be reached in a 20-minutes’ walk.

Thanks to its beneficial location, it is snow-sure and provides a varied sports programme. Ski touring, tobogganing, snow-shoeing or ice skating, you’ll be spoilt for choice. By the way, the skiing areas Racines-Giovo and Plan are within easy reach.
