Montaccio

High above the Val Passiria, there is a scattered settlement called Montaccio.

Delimited by the Stubai, Oetztal and Sarentino Alps, above all hikers, climbers and golf players are familiar with this mountain valley. On a length of 40 km, it stretches from Merano the the Passo Giovo and the Passo del Rombo. Also the famous freedom fighter Andreas Hofer was born in this valley. The Sandhof, its birthplace, today hosts a museum that is dedicated to the Tyrolean freedom fights.

Montaccio is located along the Alta Via Meranese, at 1,052 m asl, above the village of San Martino. This little settlement has got about 100 inhabitants and is guarded by the 2,191 m high Cima Montaccio.

There are plenty of hiking trails, making your walks in the Gruppo di Tessa nature park an unforgettable experience.
