About 14 km from Merano, in the Val Passiria, there is the village of Valclava, belonging to the municipality of San Martino. This little village comprises several little hamlets as well as a group of farms on the neighbouring Riederberg mountain, located on the municipal territory of Rifiano, but belonging to Valclava. Inhabited by some 320 people, the idyllic Valclava can comfortably be reached on a road built in the 1970s only.
The Rio Valclava passes this area, emptying into the Passirio river and characterising the landscape. Meadows and forests surround the area and make your walks a lasting impression. Popular hiking destinations are the Malga Faglsalm and Lake Faglsee at 2,100 m asl, and last but not least, the Alta Via Meranese high path.
