Falzes village

The main village of the sunny municipality of Falzes is the starting or end point of the impressive Fundres High Altitude Trail

"Phalanza", that's how Falzes was first mentioned in 1050 AD, a name that brings to mind Romans, lances and battles. One thing is true: Already in Roman times, the sunny location above the Val Pusteria valley was popular. From a historical point of view, the Sichelburg catches the eye, especially because of its tower-like construction and the small oriels on its façade. The St. Cyriac Parish Church is also remarkable, with its stairway lined with chestnut trees. The Valentine Church, on the other hand, is a place of contemplation in the countryside, a little away from the centre.

The location of the village at the foot of the Val Pusteria low mountain range makes it a popular starting point for mountain tours and hikes and for a bike tour on the Val Pusteria Sun Road. Excursion destinations such as the Issengo Pond are therefore also easily accessible on two wheels. By the way, the great 5-day tour on the Fundres High Altitude Trail starts and ends in Falzes, an alpine hut hike once across the Fundres Mountains. In winter, the slopes above Falzes village (Pfalzen Dorf) invite you to snowshoe excursions and ski tours, while the circuit of the cross-country ski track Falzes-Issengo leads through the fields near the village. The Plan de Corones Skiing Area, on the other hand, is a 15-minute drive away, which can also be done by ski bus.

At any time of the year, the Falzes Sports Zone is a popular meeting place for athletes, hikers and families: Here you will find the adventure forest playground and a bowling alley as well as a ski slope with conveyor belt and a sledge run. A famous sportsman comes from Falzes: Fabian Aichner, currently one of the most successful wrestlers in the WWE. Near the sports zone, themed trails such as the LandArt Trail, which combines nature and the works of Falzes artists in an interesting way, lead through the woods. In addition, there is the "The Rocks Tell a Tale" Path, a hike that tells about the geology of the area and includes almost all the districts of Falzes.
