Anterselva di Sopra

Lake Anterselva at the end of the valley shimmers through the trees in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park like a precious gemstone

At the head of the valley, the last village of the magnificent Anterselva Valley is enthroned at an altitude of more than 1,500 m, before the road climbs to the Passo Stalle and then continues to East Tyrol, a popular route for motorcyclists and convertible drivers. The scattered settlement itself is made up of a few farms, houses and small chapels such as the Brugger Stöckl and the Steinzger-Stöckl. Anterselva di Sopra is a true activity centre if you like to be out in the fresh air.

A walk separates the village centre from the number one excursion destination: the deep green Lake Anterselva. First you follow the small stream, then the mountain lake comes into view behind the trees, shining in front of the peaks of the mighty Rieserferner Group. A unique natural idyll that is designated as a protected area. You can walk around it on the Lake Anterselva Nature Path with its boardwalks and forest paths, which passes the Huber Hut and the Tiroler Hütte, another rest point. At the other end of the lake, where the road leads to the Passo Stalle, you return high above the other side of the road. There are some interactive themed stations set up in the forest.

Numerous mountain hikes and ski tours also start from the lake. They lead to imposing places like the Vedrette di Ries Mountain Hut, to Mount Croda Rossa and the Monte di Dentro. In addition, Lake Anterselva is part of the 11 Summit Tour, which touches 11 summits between the Anterselva Valley and the Casies Valley. In winter, toboggan runs lead straight from the Passo Stalle, from the Wöhrer Hut and from the Montale Hut (Steinzger Alm) to the lake or to Anterselva di Sopra (Antholz Obertal, literally: Upper Anterselva). Biathlon is also an important topic: In the South Tyrol Arena next to the lake, the Biathlon World Cup takes place - it is Dorothea Wierer's home stadium.
