Castel d’Appiano, constructed in the period of 1135 - 1130 by Ulrich II, rises in Missiano, a village that belongs to the municipality of Appiano. Once upon a time Castel d’Appiano was considered the most mighty castles of the region. Particularly worth to be visited are the castle chapel with its frescoes, which are considered among the most ancient of the Alpine area. In the interior of the castle, there is also a tavern, offering mouthwatering treats for your palate.

The lovely municipality of Appiano at the heart of the Oltradige region features a rich number of castles and manors. Its gentle-rolling hills and a number of mountains and lakes attracted dukes and lords already several centuries ago…

When seeing castles and manors you will definitely also think about horse shows. And if you believe it or not, there is a stunning horse show scheduled every year during the Pentecost weekend.

It is called the International Appiano horse show and takes place in lovely places: near to the lake of Monticolo or at the Appiano Castle. All places might, however, be reached by foot, bike or car. A stunning show with lots of music and entertainment is waiting for you!

In 2011 the Horse Riding Tournament “Eppaner Burgenritt” is no longer going to take place. The tournament in 2009 is supposed to have been the last one, but for sure this event will be replaced by another event for passionate horse riders. We keep you up to date!
