Adventure Mine Monteneve Passiria

The Adventure Mine Monteneve, located at 2,355 m asl in the Val Passiria, can only be reached on foot.

At 2,355 m asl, in the mining area of Mt Monteneve, there’s a show mine and a mountain hut. Already in the 13th century there has been a mining industry (certificate by the notary Jacob Haas at Bolzano on the 24th December 1237). The Adventure Mine Monteneve Passiria, accessible only by foot, is situated at the Tyrolean High Path and at the 13-huts-route (13-Hütten-Rundweg).

From the road to Passo del Rombo, a total of four different hiking paths lead you to the Adventure Mine Monteneve in a 2 to 2.5 hours‘ walk. A hiking bus, the so-called “Timmelbus”, runs daily in summer months between the Val Passiria and Obergurgl in the Oetztal valley. It takes you to the starting points of the hiking trails to Monteneve (n. 31, 29, 29A, 29B). An alternative is the path from the Mining World Ridanna Monteneve in Masseria in the Val Ridanna, taking you about 4 hours. It is really worth the effort!

The showroom exhibits a variety of interesting photos, documents as well as ancient items. And afterwards you can proceed into the highest located mine of Europe, open to the public since 1991. By booking the small guided tour (2 hours) you do a tour across the miners’ settlement and a short visit of the mine in the so-called “Himmelreich” (Kingdom of Heaven). If you book the big guided tour (10 hours), you can experience the entire area of the mine and go about 3.5 km into the historic Karlstollen tunnel by mine train. Next to the showroom there’s also the Monteneve mountain hut, offering accommodation.
