In the beautiful landscape of the region, for thousands of years the vines have had optimal conditions to prosper
Especially along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, that’s to say in the area south of Bolzano and in the surroundings of Lake Caldaro, vines have been grown for a long time. In the north, the region is protected from cold winds by the Alps, and in the south the mild Mediterranean influence gets noticeable. South Tyrol counts an average of 1,800 sun hours per year and a medium of 18 degrees C (in July sometimes even 23 degrees C) - the vines need at least 15 degrees C to prosper.
Also a good distribution of rainfall during the year and the light, well aerated and easy-to-warm limestone soils play their part. Due to this favourable climatic influences, in South Tyrol the vines grow at 200 m a.s.l. in Salorno just as in higher altitudes, such as at 1,000 m a.s.l. in Favogna in the south of South Tyrol or along the rather steep Valle Isarco mountainside.
And also the hard and intense work of the winegrowers in the vineyards is crucial - and it is still done like they did decades ago. The result is a high quality wine which is internationally renowned.
