From Vipiteno up to Telves di Sopra and the Telves alpine pastures: Freundalm, Kuhalm, and Ochsenalm

Our destination on this June day takes us from the town square in Vipiteno up to the alpine pastures along the Ridanna High Route - ahead of us lies a varied, easy-to-moderate mountain bike tour. We start with a steep climb up Via della Frana road, continue under the motorway viaduct to Tunes, and then follow the panoramic road to Telves di Sopra.
Here, we follow trail marker no. 5 (Malghe di Telves/Telfer Almen): starting on an asphalt road through the meadows, then along the forest track through the woods. The gravel surface is generally in good condition, although it is washed out in some places. The final short section just below the Freund Hut is steep and a little slippery.
Immediately after, we reach our first milestone in the middle of the Atscherwiesen meadows, enjoying a break on the panoramic terrace of the Freund Hut at an altitude of 1,720 metres. The forest track takes us another 200 metres of elevation uphill to the Kuhalm Hut on the sunny plateau of the Monte Cavallo and to the Ridanna High Route, which we follow to the Ochsenalm.
Right after this third mountain hut, which also offers a place to stop for refreshments, we turn left onto trail no. 6. This is a meadow trail that takes us down the upper section of the descent. This circular route eventually brings us back to the Freund Hut. From there, we follow our uphill route back to Telves di Sopra (Upper Telves). Once we reach the village, we ride downhill to Telves.
In Mareta, home to the only Baroque castle in South Tyrol, we reach the valley floor. Via the road leading to Casateia, or along the riverside path of the Rio di Mareta stream (a cycle and walking path), we come to the Casateia commercial zone and - after a four-hour tour - return to Vipiteno.
