Südtirol Festival Merano

Top-class musical performances from classical to jazz liven up historic venues in Merano in late summer

Classical, Romantic, Baroque, contemporary music, jazz and world music - come August, historic venues in the Merano area host a series of superb concerts. Music by Mozart and Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff and Arvo Pärt, Beethoven and Brahms fills the air. The 2026 edition also features the composer and pianist Bill Laurance, a five-time Grammy winner.

Running for five to six weeks into September, the festival is divided into themes such as "colours of music" (which expands the classical festival with jazz and world music), "matinée classique" (chamber music on Saturday mornings), and "mystica" (spiritual and religious sounds in churches).

Young ensembles and soloists also perform, presenting diverse programmes and chatting with the audience afterwards. The South Tyrol Festival Merano was previously known as the "Merano Music Weeks". The concerts are held in unique settings, including theatres, castles and churches.

In the spa town of Merano, these include the Municipal Theatre, the Palais Mamming, and the Kurhaus with its Pavillon des Fleurs. Events also take place at Baslan Castle in Cermes, Katzenzungen Castle in Prissiano, and within the walls of Tyrol Castle and Scena Castle. For other performances, the parish churches of Nalles, Merano, and Lana di Sotto open their doors.
