SUP: Three letters and plenty of fun! You can usually hire all the equipment you need on site
When stand-up paddleboarding, you stand upright with a paddle on a floating board. If the body of water is large enough, like Lake Caldaro and Lake Resia, there is plenty of room to first move around kneeling on the board to find your balance, stand up, and, if you fall into the water, climb back on. Because a leash secures the board to your ankle, it cannot drift away.
Lake Caldaro, the warmest bathing lake in the Alps, has a long tradition of water sports. It is particularly famous among windsurfers for the Ora wind, and SUP has also found its place on the lake. The Gretl am See bathing establishment, for example, hires out paddleboards, as do several other hire stations at bathing lakes across South Tyrol.
The sport is also well known and popular on Lake Resia. On South Tyrol's largest reservoir, the hire station is located at the upper end of the lake, near the village of Resia. Stand-up paddleboarders peacefully share the lake with kayakers, pedalo riders, sailing boats, kitesurfers (who gather at the lower shore), and flora and fauna worthy of protection.
