Ski tour to Mount Col Toronn

The Col Toronn, or Col Turond, is a vantage point high above the Passo Gardena, opposite the Sella Group

We choose a fine February day and the car park in the Vallunga valley, which branches off near Selva Gardena, as the starting point for our tour. Even the location of the car park at over 1,600 metres above sea level beneath the rugged rock faces of the Val Gardena Dolomites is impressive.

From here, we head into the valley on skis towards the Chapel of St. Sylvester, where the summer path branches off to the right into the Chedul Valley. We climb steeply up through the woods (which can be tricky when icy). Soon the woods are behind us, and we break trail along the imposing walls of the Mont de Sëura, a high alpine pasture above the Monte Pana plateau.

At the end of the valley, the steep slope beneath the Forcella Crespeina ridge awaits us. With numerous kick turns, we reach the 2,528-metre-high pass and continue a little further to the right on skis. Then we strap them to our backpacks and continue the ascent on foot.

Alternatively, you can traverse on skis slightly below the rocks. This leads you straight to the 2,655-metre-high summit. The landscape is the real highlight of this tour: The ascent runs below towering rock faces, looking back reveals views of the Sciliar Massif, and once you reach Mt. Col Toronn, the panorama opens on the Sella Group. The descent follows the ascent track.
