The Pichlberg mountain inn is located in the Reinswald Skiing Area - tobogganing is possible on the return route
Image gallery: Winter hike in the Sarentino Valley
The valley station of the Reinswald Skiing Area in San Martino is the starting point for this winter hike. We follow trail markers no. 7 and then no. 8 uphill to the Sunnolm Hut at 1,800 metres above sea level. Running parallel to this route is one of the toboggan runs in Bolzano and surroundings, the 4.5-kilometre natural toboggan run 'Reinswalder Wiesn'.
About half of the climb is already behind us at this stage, and the view reaches far into the Sarentino Alps. We continue along trail no. 9, which leads past several alpine huts up to the top station of the cable car. Once at the top, we look forward to stopping for a bite to eat.
At the Pichlberg inn, we have climbed a total of 570 metres in altitude and reached 2,135 metres above sea level. The descent follows the same route. Anyone carrying a sledge can ride down to the valley along the toboggan run - which saves time and adds an extra bit of variety.
