Driving from Castelrotto towards the Passo Pinei, you come across the village of San Michele.
Driving from Castelrotto to Passo Pinei, you reach the village of San Michele, located at 1,280 m asl. This little settlement has got some 100 inhabitants and represents the border between the mainly German-speaking area of Castelrotto and the Val Gardena belonging to the Ladin culture circle. For this reason the village has also got a Ladin name, which is San Michiel.
The buildings and farmsteads are spread round the Romanesque church dedicated to S. Michele. Recommendable are any hikes on Alpe di Siusi as well as the Bullaccia, for instance to the so-called “witches’ benches”.
