Tires village

The village on the way to the Costalunga Pass and Nigra Pass is the starting point for beautiful hikes into the Catinaccio massif

On the way from the Isarco Valley towards the Alpe di Siusi, after the hamlets of Aica di Sopra and Aica di Fiè, the main locality of Tires comes into view. Tires village stretches in the Upper Tires Valley in front of the impressive mountain backdrop of Sciliar and Catinaccio. The area seems to have been popular here for a long time: First traces of settlement date back to the Bronze Age, and the Thalerbühel with its Contemplation Path was a burnt offering site in the Middle Iron Age.

Today, Tires village (Tiers Dorf) can also be reached via the Costalunga Pass and the Nigra Pass, two popular routes for motorcyclists, mountain bikers and racing cyclists. The roads finally lead into the Val d'Ega valley and into the neighbouring Trentino. Directly on the main road of Tires is the St. George Parish Church, which attracts attention with its red spire with onion dome: Inside, it shows three ceiling paintings by the artist Karl Henrici from 1772 that are well worth seeing.

Tires is an active village with the many hiking trails and cycle routes all around. They take you to destinations such as the Messnerjoch Hut below the Catinaccio, and the Costa Hut and Plafötsch Hut near the Vajolet Towers. The area is protected as the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park and is home to woodpeckers and owls, chamois and deer. In winter, the paths are transformed into beautiful snowshoe tours, while the Carezza Ski Area opens its gates on the Costalunga Pass, and the Alpe di Siusi Skiing Area on the Siusi Alp, which is connected to the one in the Val Gardena.
