The mountain village of Gaido is the highest located village of the market town of Appiano. Tranquillity and nature are to the fore, far away from the hustle and bustle of tourist centres you can enjoy relaxing. A well-marked hiking and cycling network makes your holidays varied and active.
Nestling in the heart of meadows and forests, there is also a little pilgrimage church, which was constructed in 1638 by Eustach Franzin von Zinnenberg von Eppan. Consecrated to the Fourteen Auxiliary Saints, together with the nearby Moarhof farm, it is represents a group of listed buildings.
A further sight of Gaido is located slightly below the village: Castel Festenstein rises on a porphyry rock spur high above the gorge of Gaido. First mentioned in 1220, today only the donjon has been preserved.
