Novale

The hamlet of Novale, Ried in German, is located in the north of Vipiteno, on the road to Colle Isarco.

The district of Novale is located in the north of Vipiteno and combines the hamlets of Novale di Sopra (Oberried), Novale di Sotto (Unterried) and Lurches (Lurx), located on the eastern bank of the Isarco river. The small villages are situated between 1,000 m asl. and 1,150 m asl. and are connected through the Vipiteno Circular Path and path no. 21. In Novale di Sotto the S. Stephan Church can be found which was built in the 17th century. A special building above Novale is the Castello della Strada castle ruin which was built in the 13th century. The striking castle tower is visible from afar.

Besides Vipiteno, which stands out with one of the most beautiful old town centres of Italy, there are many other excursion destinations in the surroundings, like the hiking areas at the Monte Cavallo mountain and the near side valleys Fleres, Ridanna, Racines and Val di Vizze. Just above Novale, straight below the Cima Novale (Riedspitz) and Cima Bianca (Weißspitz) mountains (2,714 m asl.), the Platzalm, Hühnerspielhütte and Prantner Alm (1,780 m asl.) mountain huts are located. From the latter a toboggan run proceeds down into the valley in winter. Skiing is possible at the nearby Monte Cavallo and in Ladurns.
