The lovely Val Ridanna stretches from Vipiteno towards west, reaching the Stubai Alps. Over centuries mining used to be the main source of income for the population. Monteneve, which is considered the highest-located mine of Europe, is situated at the end of the Val Ridanna and is absolutely worth a visit. -
The Racines-Giovo skiing area comprises the area between 1,300 m - 2,150 m asl and is one of the most snow-sure, offering state-of-the-art lift facilities. Also the well-groomed slopes make this skiing area a popular winter holiday destination. A high-altitude cross-country ski trail and a fun park complete the offer in the skiing area.
The large-scale community and former mining municipality of Racines comprises the Valgiovo, the Val Racines and the Val Ridanna valleys. Stretching from 950 to 1,500 m asl, Racines is a member of the “Alpine Pearls”, a network of destinations able to offer holidays in environmentally conscious fashion. The Passo del Giovo divides the Stubai Alps with Cima dell’Accia, Monte Altacroce and Cima Libera from the Sarentino Alps.
Castel Wolfsthurn and its Provincial Museum for Hunting and Fishing, the Provincial Museum of Mining of Monteneve, the S. Maddalena miners’ chapel, the ruins of Reifenegg Castle and the Gilfenklamm canyon make your holidays an unforgettable experience. In winter, however, the Racines-Giovo skiing area is the greatest attraction in the municipality.
