Chains of light, festoons, the sweet flavour of cinnamon and Christmas bakery in the air, solemn Christmas songs all over… this is how the centre of Bolzano presents itself in Christmas time. Every year from the first December weekend to Christmas Eve, Piazza Walter is venue for a very special Christmas Market. Some 80 decorated market booths again and again attract people from near and far into the city and on its lovely Christmas Market. By the way, it is one of the most traditional Christmas Markets of Italy…
Local artisans offer their products and for this reason it is a perfect place to look for Christmas presents. The products included in the range of offers are for example home-made candles, honey, glass balls and wood-carved sculptures.
Of course there are also local delicacies offered for tasting and you definitely should not miss this occasion. Traditional cuisine and fine delicacies, come and taste. Finally you also have to taste hot apple juice as well as mulled wine, which is essential in every visit of the Christmas Market.
However, not only Piazza Walter is venue for a Christmas market, in the course of time many little markets have been added all over the city, and each of them has its peculiarities. There is for example also a little Charity Market, a handicraft exhibition or the winter forest in the Palais Campofranco.
